What accessible options are there for me?

Try the Lamar Track with outstanding views of the city and mountains, take a jacket though - it can get pretty breezy up on top.

The main carpark on Hillsborough Tce offers a sunny and warm spot in summer and winter that is easily navigated and a delight to the senses.

Where can I take my mountain bike?

Mountain biking is limited to Rapaki Track, Farm Track and the Mt Vernon shared use track adjacent to the Summit Road. Check the Christchurch City Council  Mountain Bike Tracks status page here.

How hard are the walking tracks?

Leave your high heeled sneakers behind when you come to Mt Vernon Park, our trails are altogether rougher and more challenging than many others nearby.

Be aware of sudden weather changes: take suitable clothing.

Be aware of rockfall danger, don't linger under rocky bluffs.

Be aware of under-runners  and holes when walking on the hillsides.

Can I bring my dog?

You're welcome to bring your canine friend to Mt Vernon Park, remember to bag your dog poo and take it with you when you leave.  

Dogs should be on a lead during lambing (July-October), and under effective control for the rest of the year.

Where are the nearest public toilets?

The nearest toilets are in Vernon Terrace where it meets Centaurus Road, or at Hansen Park.

Is there drinking water in the park?

Unfortunately the park does not provide access to water. Please bring water with you when visiting.
